Greyhound Rescue charity wants your support to give dogs their forever homes

17 March 2022

With over fifty causes now signed up, people from all over our town have been feeling the benefits of Middlesbrough Lottery fundraising. And thanks to Greyhound Rescue and Co-ordinated Emergencies (GRACE) – so have animals.

The small rescue charity was established in 2011 and is run entirely by volunteers. Its mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home unwanted and abused greyhounds, lurchers and sighthounds.

Looking after these dogs isn’t cheap - each dog that comes into the care of the charity is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and receives dental treatment, which costs around £500 on average.

Founder of the charity, Tracy Cook, said: “Extra funds raised from the Middlesbrough Lottery are invaluable to our small rescue.

“Racing greyhounds, who become too old or slow to race, or who have sustained an injury, are seriously at risk of being destroyed.

“We help as many dogs as we can by taking each one into a foster home where they have time to rehabilitate, recover, receive necessary veterinary treatment and are cared for and loved for – often for the first time in their lives.”

“Money from the Middlesbrough Lottery would allow us to continue preparing our hounds for their new forever homes.”
